| GOODWILL TENNIS TOURS CERTIFIES A DOZEN PROFESSIONALS TO THE USPTA PROFESSIONAL STATUS IN THE PHILIPPINES | Dec 7, 2006 |
Through the efforts of the US Embassy and Cebuana Lhuillier, the Goodwill Tennis Tours has gone around the country giving free clinics to coaches and kids and has also certified local professionals into becoming a United States Professional Tennis Association Professional Instructor The Goodwill Tennis Tours was founded by Elmer Dolera in 1997 and he continually ensures that such tours continue
Those taking it in Davao were Alex Bernan and Albert Angel while in Cagayan De Oro, the list of participants who fully took the exam were Clyde Casino, Kenneth Salvo , Bodi Pacana,Gunther Poschkol, Greg and Aike Mosqueda, and Raul Guerrero. Manila had four participants: Jonathan Pinon, Bong Lagarte, Attorney Ike Alday, and Chase Tinio, who scored the highest with a P1 rating in all of his exams. Cebuana Lhuillier CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier is said to be taking the Professional Certification exams in May along with his good friend Gerard Maronilla and national coaches Jun Toledo and Roland Kraut. Cebuana Lhuillier is a major sponsor of sports events, especially tennis and has recently sponsored a ten leg age group tennis tournament series in Mindanao and a tennis open tournament in Cebu.
The relevance of completing this certification enables any of these professionals to work abroad as members of the oldest professional teaching organization in tennis. Furthermore, it increases the standard of teaching tennis in our country with the infusion of the system of professional teaching.
All participants were required to do the practical exams which included a group and a single lesson demonstration, a shot progression exam, a stroke analysis exam, a grip analysis demonstration, and a written exam. While the latter three exams could be done online, and most opted to do that recourse, it is only in Cagayan De Oro where every one of the participants took the full exam. The testing was done by US PTA Pro 1 Ted Sayrahder who is a tester for the USPTA,a high performance coach and a national recreational workshop teacher.
The highest level achieved in the USPTA Professional Status is a rating of P1, followed by P2 and P3. The entry level for becoming a member of the USPTA is a developmental coach, which more than 30 have already joined this year.
Concurrent with the USPTA Professional Certification Review and testing, the Goodwill Tennis Tours also gave free tennis clinics to children of various ages in davao, cagayan de oro and manila. UPSTA Professionals Mark Allen and Bryan Cuniff gave these clinics to beginners, intermediates and advance classes for two days in each of the area. These kids were treated to an hour and an hour and half long session of drills, constant movement, fun and challenging games designed to make tennis fun and enjoyable. They were also done to keep the children moving, making their footwork and stamina skills reach newer and better levels. More than 40 kids joined the clinic. A recreational coaches workshop was also given on the first day for coaches, teachers, and local trainers to increase their knowledge in tennis and to motivate their kids into taking the sport.
Because of its initial success, it is hopeful and positive that there will be a USPTA Professional Certification Review and Testing every year in the Philippines. The Philippines is the first country that the USPTA allowed testing to occur. More often, the testing is done in the United States. The USPTA has over 12,000 members.
